Brian says...

In 2006 I made a CD called ‘Stand Up And Be Counted’. The title reflected my desire to promote English folk music. This new collection, ‘Still Standing’, is intended to show that I’m continuing to do the same thing ten years later. The songs and tunes on this album are all English traditional unless otherwise specified. All were recorded live at Rhyl Folk Club over a period of approximately a year (2015 – 2016).

My thanks to Rhyl Folk Club for their live recording initiative and to our wild and witty audience who turn up to applaud and heckle week in, week out. Thanks to my good friend Chris Algar, who joined me on bouzouki for ‘Warlike Lads of Russia’ and club stalwart Alun Rhys Jones, who provided the accordion accompaniment on our end-of-the-night extravaganza, ‘The Leaving of Liverpool’. Thanks also to our excellent club photographer, Ruth Pritchard, who took the cover photo. Finally, thanks to our long suffering sound engineer, Jeff (Bubbles) Blythin, who sat in the naughty corner and twiddled the knobs to make me sound, as he might say...’’high average’’.

To read my notes on each of the tracks, just click on the title in the column on the right. Tracks 3, 5, 7, 13, 14 & 16 have live videos too.

P.S. On these recordings I played a Martin HD28 guitar and a Wheatstone tenor treble English concertina of 1923 vintage. I just thought you’d like to know that.
